Behind FoodFest there are six major beliefs which are revisited for each event we put together.
It is no coincidence that the number six corresponds to our number of senses. The five senses traditionally ascribed to humans are vision, hearing, taste, smell and touch, but there is a sixth sense called proprioception that was added more recently. Proprioception refers to the relationship we have with our bodies.
We believe that when the five ‘traditional’ senses are addressed appropriately a greater experience can take place that leads to a deeper sense of awareness.
FoodFest is NOT a food truck festival. What we do goes beyond serving food to people who happen to be passing by. So whatever it is you, as a collaborator, are bringing to the table, make sure you are fully aware of what it represents. If your choices are made consciously and with insight, you are very welcome to join us in what we believe could significantly change the attitude towards food.
We take connection very literally. Not only is it what brings our community together, it also reflects our belief that there is a greater reality that we are both a part of, and responsible for. It involves respect for our planet and gratitude for what it brings forth. With regards to our event, this translates into recycling and re-using, but also respecting natural cycles and resources. We do not take food for granted and use local ingredients as much as possible. We do not abuse what we use.
We see connection as a very real combination of respect and gratitude towards all the elements our festival is made up of and respectfully connect with all that surrounds us.
Value is all about offering something that either awakens or sharpens our senses.
For us this means serving high-quality goods catered by renowned tastemakers with expert knowledge of the nurturing properties of what we put in our mouths.
By serving items mindfully put together by these experts we are also promoting a mind-set that leads towards making more conscious, sustainable choices.
We appreciate each and every contribution made towards this event.
Our event is an overall expression of this appreciation. It refers to the products we serve, the people who provide them and the facilitators who help put together the event. This is how we create a positive and constructive attitude that enables us to remain open-minded towards new insights. It will also allow us to remain realistic with regards to the validity of new ideas, which we will always adapt to the available resources.
Mistakes are an invitation to do better and you’re never too old to learn.
Be interested in what your suppliers have to say. Pay close attention to what others bring to the table. Understand your partners’ motivation and intention. Savour their contribution.
Be attentive towards what other people deal with on a daily basis.
We are working with world-renowned professionals who deal with very different circumstances to yours. This is an opportunity for you to learn from the best and expand your own understanding of how ‘the industry’ works.
Act local, think global.
Be the message, don’t just pass it on as a baseline.
Believe it, feel it and serve it to the world.
Much like the difference between food and nutrition, there is huge gap between tasting and fully absorbing the experience we are putting together. FoodFest is really all about opening up new pathways and making them as interesting as possible to people hungry to explore the potential of their senses. This is a bold ambition which requires a huge amount of self-reflection from everyone involved in the process. It all starts with the fundamental choices we make for ourselves.
